Visitor Engagement

One of my favourite elements of working in a museum is having the opportunity to engage with the public. I have considerable experience of directly engaging with visitors in a front-of-house capacity, and of creating resources to support audience experiences while working behind the scenes.

Visitor Engagement Representative

Princeton University Art Museum

As part of Princeton University Art Museum's visitor engagement team, I am responsible for managing daily gallery operations, including opening and closing the Museum’s two pop-up gallery spaces. I provide engaging and informative introductions to the rotating temporary exhibitions and I am on hand to answer any enquiries.

I also provide oversight and training for the Museum's team of Gallery Attendants, and I assist with the promotion, setup, and execution of Museum programs and events. I run museum events independently where required.

My role also involves assisting with the conceptualization, planning, and delivery of creative activities aimed at engaging visitors with exhibition content. Furthermore, I assist with the Museum's official social media channels by generating and publishing Instagram stories to promote ongoing exhibitions, events, and creative activities.

Zurich Portrait Prize & Zurich Youth Portrait Prize Exhibitions

Crawford Art Gallery, Cork

Working alongside the Crawford's education assistant, I created two educational resource packs to complement the Crawford's temporary "Zurich Portrait Prize" exhibitions.

These comprised an introductory guide to the Zurich exhibition and looking at portraits more generally, as well as eight case studies of portraits taken from the Crawford’s own collections and the Zurich prize exhibitors.

The packs were intended for use by primary and post-primary teachers as a starting point for lesson plans, as well as to support school visits to the Gallery. The resources aim to develop and consolidate pupils' visual literacy and critical thinking skills, fostering curiosity about self-representation and identity.

During a Roman Society-funded internship placement at the Great North Museum, I produced educational resources for secondary school children, aimed at engaging them with the "Hadrian's Cavalry" temporary exhibition.

The resources included quizzes, trails to follow, and enrichment activities to develop close reading and comprehension skills.
